I apologize for the lack of updates lately. I have gotten bogged down by the constraints of real life recently. I have been working on a guide to Tera stats and the combat calculations. I should have that available soon. But, alas we have the NA CBT 5 coming up this weekend, the final closed beta test for NA users before the world is wiped and Tera is updated for release and for most the start of their release characters in the upcoming Open Beta. En Masse has released some new dates for the upcoming events such as when the huge(4GB) open beta patch will be available for download, early character creation, early access to OBT for preorders, and new length of the OBT.
- NA CBT 5 – 3:00 pm est 4/6/12 – 2:59 am est 4/9/12 (max level of 38.)
- Character Wipe – All servers and character progress will be wiped at the end of CBT 5.
- OBT Patch – Download becomes available at 3:00am est 4/9/12 at a file size of over 4GB.
- Early Character Creation – Will be made available 10pm est 4/13/12 – 1pm est 4/17/12 (one character per account.)
- Pre-Order OBT Access – Pre orders get a 1 early access to the OBT 3pm est 4/19/12 – 3am est 4/24/12.
- Open Beta Access – Everyone else will get access to OBT at 3pm est 4/20/12 – 3am est 4/24/12 (max level of 38 is most likely.)
I noticed in this PvP video that he had several unusual icons over his head as well his party members heads showed icons also. I realized that these were the skill icons of the skills the players were performing at the time. So I went out to figure out these icons and how to configure them. I found that in the UI options there are several options to turn these icons on for not only seeing the icons over your own head but to see those icons of your party members as well. (They are off by default.) These come in quite handy for PvP as well as PvE. They indicate not only what skills are being used but information such as if someone has pulled aggro, a monster has enraged, someone has just taken a large percentage of their health in damage, or if someone is at low health. Follow the link below for full guide on the icons and their meanings.
The NA CBT4 for Tera is coming up this weekend and they have released the latest patch notes, so here they are.
- In PvP situations, player level will be exposed when you target another player (just like monsters display their level). This should help those “fight or flight” decisions.
- Doubled the maximum number of characters you can type into all chat channels. We promise it won’t go all “Barrens chat” on you, though.
- Increased difficulty from levels 1–15 on an experimental basis. Players will have around 30% less HP and return to baseline by level 20. That red bar at the top of your screen? Kinda important.
- Terron Treasure Trove Event: Added surprise boxes around the world (except for Island of Dawn). We’d tell you more, but then it wouldn’t be a surprise, would it?
The first point is interesting and will be very useful as I interpret this to mean that you will see a level indicator next to your crosshairs when they are over another player, like you have seen for mobs in the previous betas. The next point of interest is that they have lowered the base hp of characters in the 1-15 range, hopefully this will make things a little more challenging in the early game as I noticed a rather large disparity in the difficulty of mobs when transitioning from normal mobs to BAMs around level 18. Maybe this will help maybe it won’t we’ll just have to see. Finally there’s the treasure trove event, if this is anything like the treasure box event in Euro Tera CBT last weekend, you will notice little treasure chests spawned around the world. When these treasure chests are attacked they drop an item similar to a lucky egg, that you can then right click on and they grant a random reward. These rewards range from consumable fireworks, full health restore consumables, to dyes for your armor.
I was able to mess around with crafting in the Tera Euro CBT last weekend so I took this time to experience and play around with the crafting systems in Tera. So I have attempted to put together a primer on crafting as some of the experience was frustrating before I figured every thing out. Hopefully I save a few people from the pain. As I played a Slayer this time around I mainly focused on leather working and weapon crafting. However these practices should apply to all the crafting save alchemy, which I will touch on briefly. Just follow the link below to view the guide.
These are the new level 60 class skills introduced with Queen of Argon patch that NA Tera will have at release. Videos of each skill are at the links.
Berzerker – Rib Crusher If you use this skill while you are charging a skill, then you will dodge the attack and follow up with a counter. This skill can only be used while charging and can be activated twice. Activating this skill while charging makes you dodge, then activing it again will make you counter attack. The damage is based on the length of time you charge your skill.
Slayer – Throat Slash An attack that targets the enemies throat, this skill will execute faster if it is used right after over hand strike.
Archer – Paralyze Trap Arrow This trap is attached to your arrow can be fired at a certain distance. Enemies that are hit by the trap attached by the arrow will get Paralyzed. Other trap arrows include Explosive trap and Spider Trap which damage and snare respectively
Sorcerer – Stoneskin This short duration spell renders your body immune to all damages it can also be deactivated early by using the skill again.
Warrior – Wind Split Moving forward attack, spin and attack in the direction around you. This skill does more damage with the new stacking system for Warrior.
Lancer – Giga Chain Similar to the previous chain skill except it can chain up to six targets at once and bound them in place.
Mystic – Spirit Totem This totem will temporarily shield and recover party members HP over time.
Priest – Healing Wings Lock on to one party member and heal other members around that person you are locked on too. This skill can be used while moving.
Priest – Blessed Resurrection Auto Revive skill when you die your HP/MP will be 100% and max Condition Stamina.
I have found some nice videos of some of the weapon and armor skins available in Tera. So you can get an idea of what you’ll look like end game. Note that these are certainly not all teh skins available in Tera. Armors are dyeable and skinable so you can make your endgame armors look like what ever you want pretty much. Weapons appear to only be skinable. Weapons and armor have attributes listed on the item such as dyeable, enchantable, extractable, and skinable. These attributes determine if you can customize the item. However I believe any item can be the source item for for a reskin. You should also note that the source item is destroyed when reskinning an item. There are vendors in the main cities that provide these services for a nominal fee.
The following is a link to a youtube channel with videos of the various races and armor types there are far too many videos to link here individually so click on the link and find your race and armor type and enjoy.
